We followed artist Helen Mather's residency with Wigan Libraries and found out all about her current project. Helen was part of the Imago artist development programme, an exciting project that saw Wigan Council collaborating with arts agencies across the borough, such as The Old Courts, The Turnpike and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles. Find out more at www.imagowigan.com Helen Mather is a visual artist inspired by social history and personal narratives. Mather uses collage to layer ideas using stitch, image and cloth. After discovering a box belonging to her late grandma containing personal ephemera that she wanted to keep and preserve, Mather has been inspired to lead workshops that explore personal archives, legacy and lives in a community using textiles - an important link to the historic industry of the Wigan and Leigh.
