We followed artist Anna FC Smith's residency with Wigan Libraries and found out about her current project, 'Delight in Masques and Revels Sometimes Altogether.' Anna was part of the Imago artist development programme, an exciting project that saw Wigan Council collaborating with arts agencies across the borough, such as The Old Courts, The Turnpike and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles. Find out more at www.imagowigan.com Anna FC Smith is a visual artist with a longstanding obsession with the overlooked in history, folk culture, and communal traditions. As a practitioner she locates herself between artist, historian and anthropologist, with historical and anthropological research forming the basis of much of her work. Through her practice Smith celebrates ‘low culture’ relating with concepts of the carnivalesque, bawdiness, irreverence and ambivalence. She explores the role of history and the archive and the links contemporary society has with its predecessors.
