Imago is an artist development programme funded by Arts Council England comprising of three strands:

  • An artist in residence development program

  • Workshops for the local community

  • Commissions

This exciting project will see Wigan Council collaborating with arts agencies across the borough, such as The Old Courts, The Turnpike and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles: Arts Team, to develop and deliver a bespoke mentoring programme for eight local artists-in-residence, who are either at an early or developing stage of their career.

The residencies will enable each artist to identify their own path, areas to develop and how they would like to grow as an artist, both socially and professionally.

The artists-in-residence will play a central role within libraries to facilitate community groups and deliver arts workshops with and for the people of Wigan and Leigh.

The commissioned pieces will invite applications from artist collaborations and individuals from all points in their careers, to create a piece intrinsic to the borough. This will showcase local talents and highlight what makes Wigan and Leigh unique.
